Aurel Schmidt Is Getting Huge
Miami’s Oh Wow Gallery has just announced the release of this life-size poster of one of Aurel Schmidt’s most accomplished pieces. Entitled Supernatural, the open edition measures 34 x 72 inches and is available for $90. The original work has found a home with prestigious Greek collector, Dakis Joannou, who is creditied with holding one of the most siginficant private collections of European contemporary art and founded Athens’ Deste Foundation Center for Contemporary Art in 1983. You may recall the billionaire collector commissioned Jeff Koons to design the entire exterior of his 114 ft. yacht, which he unveiled this past September. Clearly Aurel is in good company – so why don’t you pick one of these up and hang it on your bedroom door for a nice morning welcome?

Kaws for Kanye
With three consecutive solo shows, and media attention from The New York Times to CBS, Kaws has certainly been on fire lately. With his latest collaboration, the artist unleashes perhaps his most high-profile commercial projects to-date. Hip-hop superstar, Kanye West’s, new album, 808s and Heartbreak drops Nov. 25th, with Kaws lending “a hand” to the iTunes art, as well as a special Christmas version available in stores on Dec. 16. While this isn’t the first time the artist has been featured on a music release, this one puts Kaws in some pretty strong company – Kanye’s last album, Graduation, featured artwork by Takashi Murakami.

(yes, shameless plug) released a limited run of individually numbered Jeremiah the Innocent collectible figures, and has plans for future projects with the artist. Shirts, signed toys, and other products can be purchased via several retailers including Daniel’s official site, Toy Tokyo, or The Whitney Museum. Read the rest of this entry »

Kaws Walks the Line
Kaws continues to walk the line between fine art and pop culture consumerism. Last week marked the opening of his first solo gallery show in several years at Miami’s Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, coupled with the announcement of his second official Star Wars collaboration, a custom Stormtrooper that serves as an excellent companion (if you get it, please excuse the lame joke) to his previously released Darth Vader figure. More show images after the jump.
