There’s just a couple of days left to catch Urban Abstract, Evan Hecox’s extremely brief solo show at Chiellerie Gallery in Amsterdam. After just six days on view, the show will close on Oct. 29 and be shipped accross the Netherlands to the town of Heerlen, where it will be on view at Glaspalais Cultural Center from late Nov. through Feb. 15th.
The exhibit has been organized by Andenken Gallery/Mather Kunst, and original works are available for purchase. In addition, a new book and two screenprints (an edition of 20, and an edition of 100) have been produced for the occasion. Click through for images. Read the rest of this entry »

Greg Lamarche and Anthony Lister Contained
Thanks to The World’s Best Ever for reminding us about tonight’s opening of Contain at Anonymous Gallery. The show is a gallery extension of last week’s three-day site-specific installation, featuring Greg Lamarche, Anthony Lister, Maya Hayuk, and Monica Canilao. Each artist was invited to design the interior of separate shipping containers at two outdoor locations in New York. Here, we present you with our photos from both Lamarche and Lister’s projects, which were situated on 22nd Street and 11th Ave., outside of the Chelsea Art Museum. Lamarche’s piece was almost a real-life adaptation of his illustrations, and a perfect extension of his art. Lister’s container was far more confounding, and included three live white rats, bound around the waist by plastic ties and wires, and attached to bricks hindering their movement. We’ll let you be the judge, so check out the images after the jump and click for larger view. Read the rest of this entry »

Recap::ABC NO RIO Benefit Art Auction & Gala
Last night, the magnificent Angel Orensanz Foundation hosted a benefit to raise funds for non-profit artist center, ABC NO RIO, who is in crucial need of relocation. For many of us, our first experiences with ABC were as teenagers, coming to their punk/hardcore Saturday matinee shows. However, for nearly three decades, this independent collective has been so much more. Since the early 80s ABC, has been a staple in New York’s Lower East Side artist community, hosting independent theater, music, artist workshops and programming. While there were some highly notable donated works, including pieces by Swoon, Tom Otterness, Crash, and Kiki Smith, the true stars of the evening were an array of burlesque performers and the eclectic Hungry March Band. Read on for more pics of the incredible space and highly entertaining evening. Read the rest of this entry »

Just in time for the recession!
With the above image emerging on the Original Fake website, this rumored release is finally official. No word on a release date, but we anticipate the drop relatively soon. Following the brown and gray versions, the Black Four Foot Companion will round out the trilogy of this groundbreaking edition. The previous two sculptures were released in editions of 100 each, so expect similar numbers or perhaps even less. Start saving…
