Recap::ABC NO RIO Benefit Art Auction & Gala
Last night, the magnificent Angel Orensanz Foundation hosted a benefit to raise funds for non-profit artist center, ABC NO RIO, who is in crucial need of relocation. For many of us, our first experiences with ABC were as teenagers, coming to their punk/hardcore Saturday matinee shows. However, for nearly three decades, this independent collective has been so much more. Since the early 80s ABC, has been a staple in New York’s Lower East Side artist community, hosting independent theater, music, artist workshops and programming. While there were some highly notable donated works, including pieces by Swoon, Tom Otterness, Crash, and Kiki Smith, the true stars of the evening were an array of burlesque performers and the eclectic Hungry March Band. Read on for more pics of the incredible space and highly entertaining evening.
