In addition to its founding partnership with the legendary artist FUTURA, KRUNK is proud to be undertaking the next evolution of in the world of Donny Miller.
Miller, known as a brazen rule-breaking anomaly within the global art scene, is a perfect match to the rogue art showmen that are behind KRUNK. Spectacle, controversy and general destruction is to follow.
Most can only reflect on the history that FUTURA created. Now, the opportunity to witness history-in-the-making is upon us. Things will never be the same.

KAWS on CBS Sunday Morning
UPDATE 2.0: Video recap here
UPDATE: For those who missed the broadcast, CBS has posted a transcript of their KAWS feature, which aired on the Feb. 8th edition of Sunday Morning. The segment closed with an XX’d out version of the show’s sun logo. Transcript here.
Original Post: In an announcement from Gering & Lopez, KAWS will be featured in this Sunday Feb. 8th’s CBS Sunday Morning show. Interviewed by Serena Altschul, this spot should be quite an interesting snapshot of the artist and his work. Check your local listings for specific air times…the attention comes on the eve of KAWS’ solo exhibition at Honor Fraser, opening Feb. 21.
The CBS logline goes as follows:
ART: Graffiti Artist “KAWS”
He’s one of the hottest names in the art world … and he has an unusual name to be sure, KAWS. After making his name in the graffiti world in the 1990s in Jersey City, KAWS left that life behind and started to paint canvases and design products. With his bright colors and clean, crisp lines, his work is perfection to many fans. Many musicians have taken note: Hip-Hip mogul Pharrell Williams has filled his Miami home with KAWS’ work. Kanye West asked KAWS for colorful designs for his latest album cover.
Working from a small Brooklyn studio, the shy 34-year-old has also created products with massive brands, including Nike, Lucasfilm and Marc Jacobs. KAWS’ rising star has now led to high-profile solo shows in art galleries in New York, Miami, and an upcoming show in Los Angeles. KAWS talks to correspondent Serena Altschul and steps out of his studio to meet the fans.

GLIMPSE :: Nouar @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery
TAC had the pleasure of witnessing some of the final preparations for the second solo show by LA-based Nouar dropping at the Jonathan LeVine Galllery. Her exhibition, “You Look Good Enough To Eat!” opens February 21, 2009 and the anticipation is palpable. Nouar’s unique voice was previously unleashed at LeVine’s in 2006, to much critical and commercial acclaim. Since then, she’s been quietly working on a new evolution in her painting – her largest scale works yet. In addition, limited edition prints will be available at the show. Her ‘sweet’ visual treats carry a subversive undertone and traverse the dark corners of the mind, all the while being some of the most finely rendered paintings outside of the likes of Mark Ryden. For those fortunate enough to acquire her work, it’s an opportunity to breathe some much needed fresh air into their collections.
An interview and some sneak peeks of her new paintings follow…

The studio’s first project will be a feature-length animated film based on “Planting the Seeds,” the shorts that premiered at Murakami’s mid-career retrospective at MOCA.

For the uninitiated, Herakut are unlikely collaborative German artists extraordinaire, the cunning confluence of aliases Hera and Akut and the finest artistic alliance of Frankfurt and Efurt the modern art world has to offer. It’s not like we’ve actually researched this part but if there’s a finer alliance we’d like to know. All the works on display are new, pre-commissioned pieces. So this is simply an opportunity to come along, hang out, have a fine time, admire Herakut’s increasingly bold, unique body of work—the strangely beautiful union of Akut’s photorealist spray paint and Hera’s distinctively scratchy, sexualised, everyday world.
