In our second story of the day involving Disney and cultural appropriation, the world’s largest mouse-based media conglomerate has begun selling a new t-shirt riffing celebrity graphic designer Peter Saville’s now legendary cover art for Joy Division’s 1979 classic, Unknown Pleasures. As Pitchfork aptly notes, “Does Disney know that the singer of this band hung himself?! Do they know where the name “Joy Division” comes from?! Do they know how stupid this guy looks wearing this T-shirt?” Amen…

After recently completing his largest free-standing piece to date, commissioned for the opening of Hurley’s new Laguna Beach store, Dalek (James Marshall) now finds himself in Hawaii, taking a week to prepare new work for the upcoming show, 2D: The Art of 2Day, at SoHo Mixed Media Bar. Images from both events (courtesy of Hurley and Curatedmag) provide an insightful look into Dalek’s creative and technical process.
2D: The Art of 2Day opens Friday, August 7, during First Friday Art Walk in Honolulu. In conjunction with the event Dalek and event sponsor In4mation have created a limited edition t-shirt and print, with proceeds benefiting The Contemporary Museum of Honolulu, the only museum in Hawaii devoted exclusively to contemporary art.

Jeff McMillan just sent over some photos from his current Los Angeles show, A Maintenance of Inhabitants (For Now), at SURU. Lots of great and affordable pieces are still available. We’re really digging the shrine-like paintings, which seem like an homage to one of Jeff’s favorite artists, Eric White.
