Jonathan LeVine’s Season Opener

Last night, The Art Collectors squeezed into the packed Jonathan LeVine Gallery for a not-so-private preview of the gallery’s two great new shows. Ambien Somnambulants is Camille Rose Garcia‘s second solo show for JLG, consisting of original paintings and drawings overflowing with the dark, Gothic fairytale imagery for which she is known. The Panorama Project 3 is a group exhibition curated by Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens, featuring commissioned works by over one hundred artists, including such notables as the Clayton Brothers, Matt Leines, Jim Houser, Jonathan Viner, Taylor McKimens and Brendan Monroe. Each artist created a 5″x7″ piece containing a horizon line, which when combined, creates a single collective artwork and a site-specific installation.

Clare Rojas for Towa Tei

Clare Rojas contributed artwork to Motivation 7, a new dance music CD compiled by music producer (and former Deee Lite member), DJ Towa Tei. It is out now on Columbia Japan (so look for an import). This release marks the latest in a series of collaborations between the musician and the artists he is a fan of. Previous releases include cover art by Steve Powers (ESPO), KAWS, and Barry McGee. Josh Keyes Vinyl

With so many artists jumping in on the designer toy game, its refreshing to see Josh Keyes imagery being used on the other vinyl – an LP record. Keyes’ art has been fully incorporated into the design of Brad Laner’s (ex Savage Republic/Medicine/Electric Company) new full length, Neighbor Singing, out on Hometapes Records. TAC gives an official nod of appreciation to this independent label, that releases some stunningly designed products, and finds inspiration in joining musical and visual artists together. Other releases include artwork by Evah Fan, Jay Ryan, J. Penry, and Friends With You. With music going the way of digital download, it is refreshing to see a label putting so much care into the pristine, yet undoubtedly financially inviable design of an actual record. In their own words: “We’ve been making things since we were kids, together even then, from every moment we collect. Product architects. Happy just to leave behind something you’ll remember…We engineer products that represent us, our friends/collaborators, and creative everyday life. Sometimes they exceed our expectations and we surely hope they excite yours.”

Truly art for art’s sake...Buy the record here.
