Banksy Applies Pier Pressure
(Image and video via Banksy)
Looks like Banksy’s gone to the English Channel to stage his latest commentary on the disaster in America’s Gulf Coast region. Amidst the heavily trafficked attractions of the Brighton Pier amusement park, the world’s most recognized political prankster has installed a modified children’s ride, featuring a dolphin trapped in the muck of a leaking BP crude oil barrel and tangled tuna net. Video documentation surfaced on the artist’s site last night along with images of several other new pieces (including the ones pictured below), and in typical Banksy form, it is perversely humorous. Entitled Pier Pressure, the clip is set to the backdrop of old time carnival calliope music and depicts two children eagerly mounting the suffering animal while their guardian happily snaps a cell phone picture.

New William Wegman Print Set
20 x 200 has just released a new pair of prints by William Wegman, available together as a set. Pink Elephants depicts one of Wegman’s signature silly dog photographs, which, as he puts it, “is a little like one of my drawings in its directness and simplicity, a sort of pictorial equation: grey dog plus sock equals elephant.” It is a is coupled with a reproduction of a quick drawing called No Fun Sleeping Under A Picture Like This. As always with the print house, editions are available in a number of sizes and price points, ranging from $100 to $2000. You can get them here.

If I were to create a list of reasons to love Andrew Jeffrey Wright, I think part of it would look like this. The new 9 x 12 print in an edition of 72 is available for $35 bucks here.

Hilter Takes on Deitch
By now, most of us have grown accustomed to the ever expanding list of Hilter parodies appearing on YouTube. Taking on everything from Obama health care to Kanye and Conan, the former führer has vented his ever growing contempt for all things pop culture. There’s even Hitler getting angry over his own parody videos. Now, “Mein Curaror” breaks into rage after learning that Jeffrey Deitch will take over as the new director of LA MoCA. With Hitler denouncing “that fucking Eli Broad, dandy suits and cheesy glasses, Barry McGee’s bid sad heads, Vanessa Beecroft’s tit parade” and “little Shepard Fairey’s ripoff propaganda,” this one is a real gem.
