Ben Jones Celebrates the New Dark Age
Ben Jones, one third of art group, Paper Rad, is currently showing off his solo skills at AMP Gallery in Athens, Greece. Celebrate the New Dark Age (a title which may be another nod to 90s indie band Polvo), is a multimedia day-glo installation of vibrant painting, sculpture, and video, which Jones will evolve as it travels to further locations in 2009. To accompany the exhibit, PictureBox has published Jones’ first book, which can be purchased here. Show runs till Oct. 23. Read through for the visual recap. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wait is Over - Aurel Schmidt at Deitch
Aurel Schmidt’s latest exhibit, Man Eater opens this Saturday, Oct. 4, in New York. The 26 year old Canadian born artist has received much praise over the past year, with her works being brought into prominent collections, including Saatchi and Deitch. Aurel moved to New York in 2003 and has refined her illustrative voice over the past few years, incorporating symbols of death, decay and waste into meticulously drafted and beautifully vibrant colored pencil and graphite drawings. Man Eater marks the artist’s third solo show, and her second with Deitch Projects. This one’s not to be missed. Read on for pictures of some of Aurel’s work and a video interview and buy her book here
